Ryan Putt

Composer | Arranger

I got my start in arranging while a member of the Cal Poly Trombone Choir in high school. I started writing charts for the group when I couldn't find an existing arrangement of a piece I wanted to play or found a piece I thought would sound great on trombones.

I continued to develop my craft while serving in the US Navy fleet band program. While serving in these bands, I was commissioned to arrange many charts for various ensembles of constantly evolving instrumentation. I started exploring my ability to combine textures, adding a jazz combo or a rock band to the traditional wind ensemble, or taking a pop tune and arranging it for a New Orleans style brass band. This experience has influenced how I write. I enjoy expanding the sonic possibilties of these ensembles by expanding their instrumentation, creating hybrid ensembles, and crafting music that is enjoyable for the musicians and audience alike.
